Quarantine Cocktails – Strawberry Basil Mule

There are countless versions of this on blogs or Pintrest, and all slightly varied but with the same core. This is a take on the Moscow Mule, a simple Vodka-Lime-Ginger Beer drink, and you could really any flavour into a Mule base and see how it turns out! This isn’t my first twist on a Mule, check out a Christmassy edition, the Mistletoe Mule.

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Copper Mug / Mule Cup

Ingredients:

  • Vodka
  • Grenadine
  • Fresh Lime Juice
  • Strawberries
  • Basil Leaves
  • Ginger Beer / Alcoholic Ginger Beer

Garnish: Basil Sprig

Making the Drink:

This one takes a bit more time, but is TOTALLY worth it.

  • Fill Copper Mug with ice
  • Muddle 4-6 Strawberries in shaker until pureed
  • Squeeze 1/2 a Large Lime (30ml)
  • Bash (gently “clap” in your hands to release aroma and flavour) 8-10 basil leaves and muddle with strawberries
  • Don’t muddle the basil too much, this causes bitterness
  • Add 40ml of Vodka to Copper Mug
  • Fill with Ginger Beer
  • Stir to incorporate the mix
  • Garnish with a basil sprig
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

For another cool level to add to the garnish on this drink, get a whole strawberry and slice off the top. Then get your basil sprig, and push it in to mimic the strawberry leaves. This can be done with mint or other herbs used in bartending and has a really neat final product!
