The Spanish Coffee has been around for quite a while. If you were to order one now, you’re likely to get a Licor43, Brandy or Rum with coffee poured over and a whipped cream float. However, this drink used to be a flaming spectacle with a much more complex make. Today’s version is mostly known as Licor43.
What You’ll Need:
Glass: Irish Coffee Mug
Ingredients:
- Licor43
- Hot Espresso
- Whipped Cream
Garnish: Coffee Beans
Making the Drink:
This is the easiest, quickest way:
- Add 40ml of Licor43 to the Irish Coffee Mug
- Fill with Hot Espresso
- Stir
- Float Whipped Cream on top
- Garnish with 3 Coffee Beans
- Serve and enjoy

The original version of the Spanish Coffee needed 7.5ml 151 Proof Rum, 7.5ml Triple Sec, 45ml Kahlúa, 90ml Fresh Brewed Coffee, 1 Lemon Wedge, and Super Fine Sugar. You had to create a rim with the lemon and sugar and carefully add the Rum and Triple Sec, then ignite, caramelising the sugar, then garnish with lightly whipped cream and grated nutmeg.
