Melting chocolate into a hot chocolate is already a pretty fancy drink… but if you wanted another level up, you could also melt 50 grams of white chocolate chips in there as well, and use a dash of peppermint essence!

To up your game on this cocktail, you could melt some milk and dark choc chips (like in my Tequila Mint Hot Chocolate video and blog), and add those to this recipe as is. This’ll give the drink an extra kick of an awesome chocolate flavour!

This cocktail could be done with Dark Rum, or Whiskey, with a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg… This is a basic version that could be experimented with in flavours in almost any way!

Winter Warmth – Mulled Cider

There are a million and one ways to make Mulled Cider! The key ‘pattern’, if you will, really is:

  • Cider: You can use almost any type but apple is standard
  • Citrus: Oranges are a classic
  • Fruit: Apples are added to a Mulled Cider quite often, but you could experiment with pears or plums or something else.
  • Spices: Cinnamon seems to be in almost every mulled drink, but other spices vary and change
  • Sweetener: Some people just use sugar, or add something different to add taste
  • Optionally, Extra Alcohol: Some people add Dark Rum or Spiced Rum, or even Whisky, and others add liqueurs to add sweetness

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Irish Coffee Mug or Rocks Glass

Ingredients:

  • Apple Cider
  • Oranges
  • Apple
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Cardamom Pods
  • Allspice Berries
  • Brown Sugar
  • (Optional) Dark Rum

Garnish: Orange Slice

Making the Drink:

This is my version of the drink that only takes 30 minutes, but you could also do this in a slow cooker!

  • Slice 2 Oranges
  • Slice 1 Apple
  • Put a pot on the stove over a low heat
  • Add desired amount of Cider (usually 2 bottles) to the pot
  • Add 4 Cloves
  • Add 2 Bruised Cardamom Pods
  • Add 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • Add 15 Allspice Berries or 1-2 teaspoons of Allspice Powder
  • Add the Orange and Apple Slices
  • Add 40grams / 2 heaped barspoons of Brown Sugar
  • (Optional) Add 60ml Dark Rum
  • Simmer on a low heat, making sure not to let it bubble
  • Cover for 20 minutes
  • Turn stove off a let it sit for a minute
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

As I mentioned earlier, you can do Mulled Cider or any mulled drink in a slow cooker! Try letting it sit for even more intense and delicious flavours to brew out of the cider and the spices!

Winter Warmth – Baileys Hot Chocolate

I am not the first to do this, plenty of people have their own versions, and on my Instagram you’ll find a quicker microwaved version, and a delicious Ferrero Rocher addition, but out of all of them I’ve tried this is by far my favourite!

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Mug

Ingredients:

  • Baileys
  • Chocolate Baileys
  • Cream
  • Hot Chocolate Powder

Garnish: Whipped Cream, Chocolate Powder and Mini Marshmallows

Making the Drink:

This is the easiest, quickest way:

  • Add 1 cup of Baileys to a pot over medium low heat
  • Add 1/2 cup of Chocolate Baileys
  • Add 1 bottle (500ml roughly) of Cream
  • Add 2 heaped tablespoons of Hot Chocolate Powder
  • Stir until combined and hot (but don’t let it boil)
  • Carefully pour from pot into mug
  • Garnish with Whipped Cream, Chocolate Powder and Mini Marshmallows
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

This drink is super simple, but to add interesting flavours, take the 1/2 cup of Chocolate Baileys, and only us 1/4, then another 1/4 cup of a Coffee Irish Cream, or a Strawberries and Cream one, or Peppermint, Salted Caramel… Anything you like!

Winter Warmth – Spanish Coffee

The Spanish Coffee has been around for quite a while. If you were to order one now, you’re likely to get a Licor43, Brandy or Rum with coffee poured over and a whipped cream float. However, this drink used to be a flaming spectacle with a much more complex make. Today’s version is mostly known as Licor43.

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Irish Coffee Mug

Ingredients:

  • Licor43
  • Hot Espresso
  • Whipped Cream

Garnish: Coffee Beans

Making the Drink:

This is the easiest, quickest way:

  • Add 40ml of Licor43 to the Irish Coffee Mug
  • Fill with Hot Espresso
  • Stir
  • Float Whipped Cream on top
  • Garnish with 3 Coffee Beans
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

The original version of the Spanish Coffee needed 7.5ml 151 Proof Rum, 7.5ml Triple Sec, 45ml Kahlúa, 90ml Fresh Brewed Coffee, 1 Lemon Wedge, and Super Fine Sugar. You had to create a rim with the lemon and sugar and carefully add the Rum and Triple Sec, then ignite, caramelising the sugar, then garnish with lightly whipped cream and grated nutmeg.

Winter Warmth – Irish Coffee

The Irish Coffee has been around for a LONG time. An absolute Winter staple, this drink has always consisted of Irish Whiskey, Brown Sugar, Hot Coffee and Cream, which the coffee is drunk through. There is some debate about who originated this drink, but it’s always been somewhat the same.

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Irish Coffee Mug

Ingredients:

  • Irish Whiskey
  • Brown Sugar
  • Hot Espresso
  • Whipped Cream

Garnish: Coffee Beans

Making the Drink:

This is the easiest, quickest way:

  • Add 40ml of Irish Whiskey to the Irish Coffee Mug
  • Add 1 barspoon of Brown Sugar
  • Fill with Hot Espresso
  • Stir
  • Float Whipped Cream on top
  • Garnish with 3 Coffee Beans
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

A dash of maple syrup will add a richness to this cocktail, and if you wanted to take it further, nutmeg on top adds a lovely smell! Another thing that could fancy up this classic, is making your own whipped cream and flavouring it, you could do coffee, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, or anything you like.

Winter Warmth – Hot Toddy

This is another classic Winter drink with a million different recipes out there. The one in my video is a really basic version, but some people add brown sugar or cinnamon or orange to get an awesome flavour kick! You can also change the base spirit to another Scotch or different Whisky.

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Irish Coffee Mug

Ingredients:

  • Scotch
  • Lemon Juice
  • Honey
  • Sugar
  • Boiling Water

Garnish: Lemon Slice, Cinnamon and Star Anise

Making the Drink:

This is the easiest, quickest way:

  • Add 40ml of Scotch to the Irish Coffee Mug
  • Add 1/2 a Lemon Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Add 2 barspoons of Sugar
  • Fill the glass half with boiling water
  • Stir
  • Add Honey (to taste)
  • Fill with boiling water
  • Stir again
  • Garnish with Cinnamon, Star Anise and a Lemon Slice
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

For a richer taste, use a darker Whisky, or even a Dark Rum, and use Maple Syrup instead of honey. If you want something a little less rich but still delicious, add a cinnamon stick and some star anise, with a dash of fresh orange juice… Almost a simple mulled drink!

Winter Warmth – Mulled Wine

There are a million and one ways to make Mulled Wine! The key ‘pattern’, if you will, really is:

  • Wine: You can use white, however red is the most common
  • Citrus: Oranges are a classic, and once you have your citrus you can go and add other fruits if you like
  • Spices: Cinnamon seems to be in almost every mulled wine, but other spices vary and change
  • Sweetener: Some people just use sugar, or add something different to add taste
  • Optionally, Extra Alcohol: Some people add Bourbon, Brandy, Cognac, Rum or something alone those flavour lines, and others add liqueurs to add sweetness

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Wine Glass or Stemless Wine Glass

Ingredients:

  • Red Wine
  • Oranges
  • Star Anise
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Vanillin Sugar
  • Vanilla Bean
  • (Optional) Brandy

Garnish: Orange Slice

Making the Drink:

This is my version of the drink that only takes 30 minutes, but you could also do this in a slow cooker!

  • Slice 2 Oranges
  • Put a pot on the stove over a low heat
  • Add 1 bottle of Red Wine to the pot
  • Add 4 Star Anise
  • Add 10 Cloves
  • Add 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • Add 1 Vanilla Bean
  • Add Vanillin Sugar (to taste)
  • Add the Orange Slices
  • (Optional) Add 60ml of Dark Rum
  • Simmer on a low heat, making sure not to let it bubble
  • Cover for 20 minutes
  • Turn stove off a let it sit for a minute
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

To create something really cool from leftover Mulled Wine, let it cool and sit overnight, then add around 1/2 cup of sugar, and put on a high heat. After a while of mixing to avoid burning, the mixture will thicken slightly. Let it cool off, and you now have an incredibly low alcohol, Mulled Wine Syrup! Delicious on orange desserts!

Quarantine Cocktails – Heisenberg

This drink is inspired by the show Breaking Bad, and actually has heaps of variations! There is another classic blue drink called the Heisenberg as well, which is Gin based, whereas this one is Tequila. Both are delicious, and besides, who doesn’t love a blue drink!

What You’ll Need:

Glass: Wine Glass

Ingredients:

  • Tequila
  • Cointreau
  • Fresh Lime Juice

Garnish: Agave and Salt Rim

Making the Drink:

This is the simplest version of this drink out there, others include a dash (usually 5ml) of Orgeat Syrup (an almond syrup).

  • On separate plates, lay out the agave syrup and salt and rim the rocks glass
  • Add 40ml Tequila to shaker
  • Add 15ml Blue Curaçao
  • Add 20ml Fresh Lime Juice
  • Fill the shaker with ice
  • Shake for 20 seconds
  • Strain
  • Serve and enjoy

Feeling Fancy?

To add an even cooler visual effect to this drink, you can make blue salt. To do this, you can get a certain collection of blue herbs and use a mortar and pestle to grind in with rock salt, or you can use food colouring. To use food colouring, put your salt and food dye in a Ziploc bag and adjust for how saturated you want the colour. Press ALL the air out (or your bag could explode!) and seal the bag, then mix and knead together.
