A Californian restaurant has claimed to be the origin of the classic Shirley Temple but there are other stories around too. Ironically, the actress with the namesake does not enjoy the mocktail, but was complaining as her parents had cocktails so the wait staff created this for her. Later she sued a soda company for trying to use the name, claiming “all a celebrity has is their name”. This one is an alcoholic version, hence “dirty”.
What You’ll Need:
Glass: Highball Glass
Ingredients:
- Vodka
- Grenadine
- Fresh Lime Juice
- Ginger Beer / Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Garnish: (Optional: Maraschino Cherry)
Making the Drink:
This is a really straightforward mocktail-turned-cocktail.
- Add ice to the Highball glass
- Add 40ml Vodka
- Add 15ml Grenadine
- Add 7.5ml Fresh Lime Juice
- Fill with Ginger Beer (I used alcoholic but this is optional)
- Garnish with a Maraschino Cherry
- Serve and enjoy
Feeling Fancy?
This mocktail-turned-cocktail is pretty simplistic but doesn’t need much more than that! To fancy this one up a bit, you could add the Grenadine last and drizzle it over the top to sink it like you would a Tequila or Vodka Sunrise, and watch the colour of red drip slowly to the bottom and through the drink for a cool visual appeal.
